I drove home from St. Louis today; the drive was more lovely than I've ever noticed. The trees danced naked against the December sunset. Time passed slowly, only noticed as the sky faded from grey to black. From the moment I began driving, my mind paced from the beautiful scenery to the sense of peace it granted me. For the first time in months, I became lost in my thoughts:

I've often heard people distinguish between two types of  thinkers-- the Analytic and the Intuit. As commonly understood, analytical thinkers are known to question assumptions and evaluate evidence before reaching a conclusion; they are the "Intellectuals"-- often associated with debate, academia, and an undying need to find truth. Intuitive thinkers are believed to draw conclusions based on "gut", feeling, or experience; they are the "Feelers" who know without effort or consideration of the unlikely. But, I'd argue that the logic of the analytic underlies the feeling of the intuit. If the analytical thinker believes that arguments are only valid if assumptions are scrutinized and evidence is reviewed, it is likely that a) experience taught him so or b) it is a feeling of rightness* that fueled this belief. As for the intuitive thinker, one might consider intuition a form of internalized logic: our systems of intuition developed to allow complex, logical analysis to occur quickly and without our awareness. With this in mind, I question the meaningful difference between the two types. Having struggled to choose a label for myself, I might also ask why we try to distinguish them in the first place.

One thing I've learned from this post is that I must write my thoughts down as soon as possible. I feel like time gave so much only to take it away. I shall make a point to post earlier next time; good thoughts are too precious to waste. Until the next opportunity...
